"The build quality of the Indentec equipment is first class..."

Hewland Engineering Limited was founded by Mike Hewland in 1957 and is the company that invented the bespoke racing car gearbox. They have been supplying the worlds racing car constructors ever since. Their 50 years of experience is focused solely on making gearboxes which help their customers win events and championships across the world.

The brand name Hewland was made famous in the sixties and seventies; but is now enhanced by today's wider range of exciting products. It is the only company in the world that supplies racing gearboxes to virtually all levels of the sport.

Hewland Products

You will find Hewland transmissions and components in nearly every category of motorsport, from the stages of the World Rally Championship in Super 1600, Group N and World Rally Cars, to the race circuits of Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia in touring cars, sports cars, Nascars and single seat racers.

Design and quality is at the forefront of their operation at the purpose built facility in Maidenhead, England and controlling their own heat treatment processes is high on their list of priorities.

When Hewland decided to upgrade their hardness testing capability, they turned to Zwick Roell/Indentec to help them identify a technically advanced solution to accommodate both Vickers and Rockwell testing requirements on a range of gears and associated products.

Indentec Micro Vickers and Combined Rockwell

Nick Buckland, heat treatment manager at Hewland Engineering said, "Indentec demonstrated a true understanding of our full requirements when demonstrating the performance of their products. This, along with their passion and commitment in assisting us with an optimum solution gave us the confidence to select Indentec as our equipment supplier for this contract."

The new Rockwell machine is used on a daily basis for routine testing of heat treated components and the automated Vickers micro-hardness tester is primarily utilised for the demanding tests prescribed by Hewland's customers and for quality assurance inspection purposes.

Nick added that, "The build quality of the Indentec equipment is first class and the machines have proved to be faultless in operation, providing us with accurate data of the highest integrity. This enables Hewland to continue providing our customers with a world class product."
