"Our dependence on accurate and reliable hardness testing equipment cannot be overstated and that is why we selected Zwick Roell Indentec..."
Tamworth Heat Treatment are an independent company established in 1980. They supply a wide range of heat treatment and surface engineering processes - including vacuum hardening and plasma nitriding - to the aerospace, motorsport, oilfield, medical, tool-making and general engineering sectors. Quality of process and delivery performance are key to providing their customers with the best service possible, while their accreditation to ISO 9001 and AS 9100 means their quality objectives meet or exceed their customer expectations. They offer a flexible and consistent service utilising some of the most environmentally friendly and energy efficient processes.
The major thermal processes carried out by Tamworth Heat Treatment are vacuum furnace heat treatment and plasma/plasox surface treatments; the company has invested heavily over the years in modern processes. They currently operate 9 vacuum furnaces and 2 plasma nitriding furnaces, all of which incorporate modern computer controlled operating and monitoring systems.
Kevin Langston, the company's Quality Manager, said, "The company has expertise in processing a wide range of material such as super-alloys, stainless steel and the whole range of tool steels, carbon and alloy steels, copper and copper alloys. In such a demanding environment, hardness testing plays a vital role in the production process and every customer's order is tested to ensure conformance to specification. To enable us to cope with the extensive variety of hardness requirements, from 50HV 0.2 up to 69HRC, the inspection department is equipped with a wide range of hardness testing equipment, including Zwick Roell Indentec Rockwell and micro/macro hardness testing products."
As part of their commitment to quality, being able to meet their customer's hardness testing needs is vitally important, as an increasing number of their customers require certification of hardness.
"Our dependence on accurate and reliable hardness testing equipment cannot be overstated and that is why we selected Zwick Roell Indentec as our preferred supplier of hardness testing products," added Kevin.

Some of the key factors which featured highly in the decision by Tamworth Heat Treatment to purchase from Indentec included: the equipment supplier being located in the Midlands; ease of machine operation and load changing; and the novel extended indenter-nose on the Rockwell machine, which allows good accessibility on difficult to reach component test areas.
Kevin commented, "Service support and equipment calibration, coupled with application experience, was regarded as a major benefit and resulted in us selecting to purchase equipment from Indentec. The ability for us to deal directly with a local manufacturer, ensuring prompt availability of technical and maintenance back-up, made the choice of supplier very easy."
Tamworth Heat Treatment has been employing Indentec hardness testers for a number of years and report excellent product reliability with servicing and calibration always being carried out in a thorough and timely manner.
